Nice to Meet You

Shane is a manager of our Draper store and has worked for Cactus & Tropicals for 11 years.  He is part plant encyclopedia and part creative genius.  He is one of our go-to employees when we have a tough customer question, particularly in the areas of cactus and bonsai.  He will specifically be writing about indoor house plants.  Some of his favorites: from delicate orchids to 20 foot ficus trees.

Kathy Harbin is the general manager of Cactus & Tropicals.  She has been with us for over 20 years and spent her first several years as a technician;  one of the individuals who spend their days taking care of plants in offices, restaurants, hospitals and homes.  Now, in addition to managing two retail stores, she supervises 30 people who take care of plants all over Salt Lake City.  They visit thousands of offices each week and, as a group, have come across every conceivable plant situation.  She will be providing some real-life, tried and true tips about what works and what doesn’t work from the field.

Linda is our retail manager and splits her time between our Salt Lake City and Draper stores.  She has been with the company for 13 years and is our expert on outdoor plants.  She is especially knowledgeable about Utah native plants as well as xeric and draught tolerant varieties.

Alicia has worked in the horticultural services department of Cactus & Tropicals for 6 years.  Her love of orchids initiated her insatiable passion for interior landscapes.  After years of servicing the plants at a wide variety of businesses and homes, she has become one of our most talented technicians.  In her articles she hopes to ‘help others appreciate plants as endlessly enigmatic, sublimely beautiful, and inevitably vital for the sustainability of human existence.’
