Rose of Sharon is best planted into rich, slightly acidic soil in a full sun to part shade location. The shrub prefers moist, well-draining soil, although it will tolerate a range of soil conditions, except those that are soggy or extremely dry.

The Rose of Sharon may reseed abundantly, so be prepared to remove additional plants appearing in unwanted areas of the landscape. These can be relocated to a more desirable location or shared with friends.
